Royal W. "Roy" Sherow

Shipmates:

Roy Sherow died Tuesday, June 24th, while fishing at Bashbish Forest. Roy has had health problems in the last couple years but he always managed to attend our meetings. Here’s an e-mail that he sent to Matt Schmitz last year. Pay particular attention to his Eternal Patrol vision.

“Hi Matt: I just wanted to let you know why I didn’t attend the barbeque and also won’t be able to attend this Friday’s meeting. Since the middle of last July I’ve been in the hospital 5 times. I just got home the last time after being there for 10 days being admitted for congestive heart failure. While I was there I was on Eternal Patrol for a short time but they managed to bring me back. Everyone has been asking me if I remember seeing angels, bright lights, or hearing beautiful music. I tell them no but I saw a 10 point buck standing by a stream with a big trout jumping out of the water. Anyway, they removed my pacemaker and replaced it with a defibrillator (this is supposed to shock my heart if it happens again}.

I’m supposed to take it easy and can’t drive for a while but I hope to be in good shape by the next meeting, getting together with yourself and the rest of the gang is something I always look forward to. I’d sure appreciate if you would bring it up at the next meeting why I’ve been unable to attend and will be back with the gang as soon as possible.

Thanks and hope to see you all soon”.

There will be a service next Tuesday, June 30th at the William Miller Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Avenue in Poughkeepsie (directions) from 2pm to 4pm and a memorial service at the LaGrange Rural Cemetery at 4:30pm.

Please plan on meeting about 1:45 pm at the funeral home, Class A uniform.

As I get more information I will pass it along.

Sailor rest your oar.
