John J. McAliney

 

EAST FISHKILL John J. McAliney, 73, an area resident since 1964 and formerly of White Plains, died on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.


Born in Brooklyn on May 7, 1935, he was the son of Patrick and Marie Kilcoyne McAliney.  He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Albacore and was a member of the Hudson Valley Base of the Submarine Veterans. He was employed as a building engineer for AT&T in White Plains for 30 years until his retirement in 1984.  He was currently employed as the Deputy Building Inspector for the Town of East Fishkill and was a member of the New York State Building Officials Conference. John was a parishioner of St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction and enjoyed hunting and fishing. 


On October 8, 1960 at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Yonkers, John married Irene Jacques who survives at home.  In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children,  Thomas McAliney and his wife, Annie of Brewster, Michael McAliney of Hopewell Junction, Brenda Porter and her husband, Brad of Hopewell Junction and Stefany McAliney of Hopewell Junction; his grandchildren, Mikaela and Nicholas Porter of Hopewell Junction; his brothers, Peter and James McAliney of Pennsylvania; his sisters, Mary Murphy and Rose McAliney of New Jersey, Patsy O'Connor of Hopewell Junction and Catherine Purzner of Georgia; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.   John was predeceased by his brothers, Myles and Thomas McAliney.


Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00p.m. on Saturday at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery with military honors.

Shipmates:

We will be gathering at the McHoul Funeral Home on Friday at 7:15 pm to pay our last respects to our shipmate, John McAliney. Uniform of the day will be white shirt, dark tie, dark pants, vest and cap.
